Mentorship Program

Mentorship

There are many ways CATOs can support CASB students employed with their firm. One way to offer support is to identify mentors within the firm who can field students' questions and guide them as they pursue their CA designation - providing knowledge and background information based on years of experience in the accounting field.

Support can be informal or formal. Informally, it is always beneficial for a student to have the opportunity to discuss issues in greater detail. CATOs may also choose to provide opportunities within their firms for CASB students to touch base by taking time, perhaps as part of the student's orientation to the firm, to give them the chance to become familiar with the competency-based learning approach of the CASB program, the CASB module format, and the computer requirements of the program.

As part of a more formal approach to mentoring, individuals in CATOs may choose to participate in the CASB mentorship program.

CASB Mentorship Program

The mentorship program is an opportunity for CAs to share their knowledge and experience and give back to the profession -personal involvement in the education and training of tomorrow's CAs can offer tremendous satisfaction.

Mentors can provide guidance for students in the areas of:

  • Researching issues
  • Clarifying CASB requirements
  • Ensuring adequate technical support for students
  • Clarifying terms or issues and suggesting methods of analyzing an issue
  • Suggesting possible approaches and responses to questions in the CASB modules
  • Suggesting layouts to tasks (e.g. cash flow projections)
  • Defining terms
