Message from CASB CEO John D. Gunn, MEd FCA

Congratulations to all 1037 CASB students who successfully challenged this year’s UFE. At CASB, we are always proud to see our students succeed.

It’s no secret that CASB is an intense postgraduate program. We challenge you to do more than just complete tasks; we press you to develop the critical thinking and professional judgement skills needed to be a successful CA. But, through it all, you persevered and your dedication has served you well. You’ve completed the first phase of your career as a CA – demonstrating on the UFE that you have achieved the level of competency expected of a qualified Chartered Accountant.

Think back to why you chose the CA profession. Was it because Chartered Accountants are the most valued accounting body in Canada? Was it because becoming a CA would provide you with the prospect of incredible opportunities and a rewarding career? Was it because Chartered Accountancy is renowned for producing members who display integrity, professionalism and trustworthiness? Whatever the reason, or reasons, you are now standing at the beginning of a long and rewarding career. It is an open book, and with the backing of your CA designation you can write the chapters any way you wish.

A hallmark of the CA profession is the quality of mentoring provided by members to aspiring members. We ask you to reflect on how the mentoring you have received has improved your skills and abilities, and then consider how you in turn can support students coming along behind you. They are standing now where you once were. A rewarding way to pass on your skills, and support the CA profession, is to become a CASB facilitator, case reviewer or writer. If you are interested, please contact Susan Deleau, CASB’s Director of Learning, at deleau@casb.com.

This is always an exciting time of year at CASB. Each and every one of our team members offers you sincere congratulations on your achievement, and wishes you great future success.

John Gunn
