1) Why does CASB need IT support staff?
Students attend evaluation centres in order to write evaluation cases at the end of their modules, or when they challenge the Uniform Evaluation (UFE). CASB needs IT support staff in order to provide an appropriate level of service for students at the evaluation centres.
The IT support staff provides technical assistance for those few students who may encounter technical difficulties at the start, at some point during the evaluation, or at the conclusion of the evaluation. In 2005, Securexam (CA) was used by students on an optional basis to key in UFE responses during the delivery of UFE and those students who chose this option encountered very few technical issues. Most of these issues were resolved by simply rebooting the computer.
2) When does CASB require IT Support services?
The duration of the time commitment is from approximately 8:00 to 3:00PM . The IT support staff must be in attendance throughout the entire evaluation centre. IT support staff are in attendance as long as necessary to ensure that all student submissions are retrieved.
Prospective IT support staff do not need to be available for all of evaluation dates in the year. CASB's preference is to have the same support staff for multiple day evaluations.
CASB will need IT support staff on an ongoing basis, as it will soon be implementing the use of laptops in Modules 1 to 5.

4) What is expected of an IT support staff?
An IT support staff is the designated technical support person at the evaluation centre. A successful IT support staff must possess two key qualities:
- "Grace under pressure" - the ability to problem-solve while dealing with people in stressful situations. During the delivery of the evaluation, students are under stress. Portraying a calm, reassuring presence will help students work through their concerns.
- Knowledgeable computer skills - an IT support staff should be comfortable with programs Microsoft Word, Excel and Windows Explorer. The IT support staff should be able to easily and quickly navigate a hard drive to recover hidden files.
5) What is Securexam (CA)
Securexam (CA) is an evaluation delivery software system that enables students to take an evaluation in a secure environment using Microsoft Word and Excel. Securexam (CA) locks out access to all other files, programs, and the Internet.
For more information about Securexam (CA) , log on to:

6) Does an IT support staff need to install Securexam (CA)?
No. An IT support staff will need to have a recent version (see description of software) of Microsoft Word and Excel in order to facilitate the recovery of the files. The IT support staff will be provided a print utility as part of the admin workbench. If the individual does want to try Securexam, CASB can make it available.
7) What equipment does an IT support staff need to bring to an evaluation centre?
The IT support staff will need to bring his/her own laptop with a portable printer, extra toner cartridge and a cell phone. The laptop should have at least two USB ports. CASB will supply the paper for printing.
8) Am I responsible for the conduct of the whole evaluation?
No. At each evaluation centre, there is a designated evaluation invigilator who would be responsible for the conduct of the evaluation centre. The IT support staff reports to the evaluation invigilator.
9) What is the rate of pay?
CASB pays a rate of $50 per hour for the time at the evaluation. Eligible time would include: set up at the beginning of the evaluation, throughout the evaluation, to the conclusion of the evaluation session. (This would also include time to help students shut down machines and possibly recover any files.)
Eligible expenses would include parking and necessary supplies.
10) What support is available?
CASB offers teleconference and on-line training.
There are also detailed support booklets made available to IT support staff and phone assistance during the evaluation, as needed.
11) Do I have to be a chartered accountant (CA) in order to work as an IT support staff?
No. IT support staff simply need to be knowledgeable computer users who understand the requirements and responsibilities of the positions.
12) Are there confidentiality issues?
Yes. Student responses from the evaluations are non-disclosed. This means that the IT support staff has access to confidential materials. The IT support staff is expected to maintain the confidentiality of the software and student responses.
13) Is there a deadline for submitting an application form?
As CASB will be implementing the use of Securexam through out its modules, there is no deadline for accepting an application.
